Modular built

The Fairphone 2 with Ubuntu is modular built. The smartphone consists of components you can replace and upgrade yourself. When a certain component of your Fairphone 2 needs replacement, you don't have to throw away the device, because you can easily replace components yourself. Due to the longer lifespan an enormous amount of waste is being saved. Unlike what most people think, the Fairphone 2 is not 100% recyclable.

Currently Google and Apple are dominating the smartphone industry. Their various platforms give them access to a whole range of your private data, with which they ultimately earn a great deal of money through advertising. This commercial exploitation of users must be changed.

Ubuntu operating system

Conflict-free materials

Because conflict minerals fund armed groups, Fairphone traces the origin of phone parts, so only minerals from conflict-free or fair-trade mines are being used. They create demand for materials that are good for people and planet. The production of the Fairphone 2 is not 100% conflict-free. Of the 40 minerals that are used in smartphones, Fairphone has selected four minerals that are produced in a sustainable way: gold, thin, coltan and tungsten.

The Fairphone 2 is equipped with all the modern features, including a sharp Full HD screen, a powerful 8MP camera, a fast processor and plenty of storage space. The device runs on Ubuntu operating system.

Ease of use

In contrast to the better-known operating systems, Ubuntu does not depend on apps. In overview screens Ubuntu combines all the information relevant to you. These screens can include email, music and appointments. This means you do not have to shift back and forth between apps.
